Learn the Tarot

What if somebody tells you how to read the tarot?  Would you be interested? It would be really nice if somebody gives you that offer realizing that on your own, tarot study seems to be a lot of hard work.  Your most likely response would probably be to give back a really big smile and a nod of approval.  But contrary to what beginners in tarot card reading think, the tarot is easy.  It simply takes a little strategy, patience, concentration, and interest in the art of tarot reading.

So what does it take to learn?  Beginners of tarot should first get to know their cards.  To do this, one can go to the internet and read about tarot cards and the meaning of each card.  There are different kinds of decks for the tarot.  Look for one by which you would feel comfortable working and purchase a set from a local specialty store or from the internet.  The usual deck used is the Rider Waite.

Once you have the cards, read a little bit as well about tarot history and uses.  Most people think that tarot can foretell one’s future.  Though that is the image portrayed in films, one should understand that tarot can only help a person with her future by giving her valuable advice, suggestions, and warnings.  It can help with issues about love, career, relationships, family, finances, future plans, and more.

After one has recognized the meaning of each card, the next thing is to learn the tarot pattern or tarot spread.  This is the manner of arranging the tarot cards in certain ways so that a specific kind of reading can be achieved.  Learning about this will also help one know the number of cards to be used.  There are spreads good for a day, a week, a month, or even a year’s reading.  The meaning of the tarot cards can change with their position in the spread in relation to other cards.  Some would denote the reverse meaning of a card.  It is really very interesting and once one is able to read the tarot, they can start reading for themselves.

In making readings, there are two types: the open type and the question type.  In the open type, one just makes the reading without boundaries.  Whatever the reader sees is mentioned.  The question type on the other hand, requires that a certain question, not answered by a simple yes or no, be asked.  It usually starts with a what, a how, or sometimes a why.  Tarot cards cannot tell exact time or place.  So avoid using the where and the when in questions.  The tarot may tell about meeting someone but sometimes one is left to figure out the exact date.  All one needs to do is to simply be prepared for each day the event can possibly occur.  Beginners usually use the second type more.

Practice every day. Read the meanings and different interpretations till you master them. Pretty soon you will be ready for the next step which is the actual reading.  It is really nice to have a mentor but if it is not possible to have one.  Learning the tarot through other means is possible.
